Sewing Tips… Using Alphabitties

in Sewing Tips & Tricks on 12/03/14

This week I’m sewing a baby quilt. My best friend is pregnant. I’ve anticipated making her a quilt for quite awhile and I’m super happy to be finally working on it.

I love to sew, but I don’t quilt that often.  Quilting always gets the best of me and messes with my brain! Not sure about you guys? I love everything about quilting – the cutting, mixing and matching of fabrics and the precision required. But there are times when the persnickety business of quilting can turn me upside down.

The Fat Quarter Shop asked if I wanted to try out a product called Alphabitties and I jumped at the chance.  These are specialty marking tools that help LABEL your fabric after it has been CUT. I think they were made just for me!

Here is what I liked about Alphabitties.

Every packet comes with 26 letters and 10 numbers. I was sent 2 packets to try and liked having duplicate letters.

Like I said before, in the quilting world I am the queen of flipping pieces around. I have my pieces all organized and as I walk over to my sewing machine, the neatly layered pieces get jumbled in my hand. With these handy little squares, I cut my pieces and felt at ease.. I loved that everything was organized and ready to go.

The squares correspond with the letters in my pattern. Everything was piled and ready to sew or to start again fresh the next morning.

When it came time to sew my blocks together, I had everything ready and labelled. This was perfect for me! I could take a break and be assured that when I came back I could pick up right where I left off..

Ta-dah.. One block down and 11 more to go.

Thanks for stopping by. This post was sponsored by The Fat Quarter Shop. Head on over – they have an awesome video tutorial on using Alphabitties. You can see it here.

Happy sewing!

Do these Alphabitties stick? How do you use them on your design board? tx Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, No they are not sticky. They are about 1″ squares that you lay on top of the fabric. If you wanted to use on a design board, you could always attach with a small piece of tape.

I made the most glorious little Kraft-tex journal I made the most glorious little Kraft-tex journal cover over the holidays. Not only do I love the color of the month for December (blue turquoise), but the texture of my journal is like aged leather and looks durable and rugged. Did you know Kraft-tex is actually paper??? My cover was simple to make and is just one rectangular piece of Kraft-tex, folded over at the ends and topstitched. Thats it.❤️

What a fun class! Thank you to the participants in What a fun class! Thank you to the participants in my first zoom block printing class. It was an amazing group of people coming together with a common goal - sharing their love of print and pattern design.

My hubby snapped a few pictures during the workshop. I’m normally a “hider outer”, but thought this was a perfect opportunity to say Hi. Even if it is looking down and away from the camera. 🤪

I will be hosting another block printing zoom workshop mid January. Come one come all. DM or email me for details.
