Inspired by Zakka

in Inspiration on 05/09/13

I am new to the Zakka scene.  Over the last couple of months I have heard a lot about Zakka, but wasn’t overly sure what it was all about.. While shopping this weekend, I came across the perfect Zakka book and had to buy it – it is called Zakka Style.  The book was complied by Rashida Coleman-Hale and showcases projects from 24 designers.

While I was googling Zakka – I found alot of information about the author, the book and the Zakka movement. There are Sew A Long groups, Flickr groups and Pinterest pages all dedicated to this book…Rashida Coleman-Hale – You are awesome!  The book came out a few years ago. Where was I? I feel like I have missed out on alot of fun.

I’m not going to dwell on missing out on the action. Instead, I’ve decided to create a little Sew A Long for myself and will sew 4 of my favorite projects in the book.  Here they are:

patchwork pencil case

Pot holders 600px

zip organizer 600px

Like so many of you out there, time is of the essence.. My sewing and blog to-do list is a mountain! But I’m committed to learning about Zakka and sewing a project from these very talented designers. Zakka as a design scheme defintely speaks to me – I love simple, modern and functional designs.

Check back periodically for more information on Zakka and how my projects are going. I promise to keep you posted as I sew the projects above -the message board, pencil case, pot holder and zip organizer.

P.s.. Go and buy the book, you will LOVE it!!

This was my first Zakka book, too, and I still love it! I made the pincushions; they were one of my first blog posts. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you come up with!! Zakka Handmades, Patchwork, Please! and Stitch Zakka are also really wonderful.
