Looking to sew something, but need a little inspiration?
For the last 5 weeks I have been traveling around the country attending tradeshows. I work in the footwear industry, but attend a variety of shows to access different customers. The show content ranges from the outdoor industry, to apparel/accessories at a fashion mart to a footwear only tradeshow. I love attending and wandering around seeking out new brands and cool products. This time around there were a few trends that really stood out and I thought I would share them with you..
Distressed and bohemian – I primary hang out in the footwear world, but I think the vintage trend easily translates into the sewing world.. Look for patchwork fabric, distressed leathers and add a touch of ruffles or tassels to your projects.
Lace – As I said last spring, lace isn’t for doilies and table cloths anymore. Lace is everywhere and has been hot for a few seasons! Add lace in a new, modern twist. Not sure how? I promise to share a unique idea on updating lace and sewing it into an easy tote.
Aztec – Think of the aztec print as the updated chevron. Tired of the zig zag? Find prints with arrows, directional lines or small points running in one direction.
Nautical – Sea inspired prints and colors have already hit the stores. Add nautical themes to your sewing projects such as anchors, boats and even sea creatures! Applique anyone?
Happy Sewing!
