Baby’s 1st Birthday!!? DIY Dino Printed Favor Bags

in DIY Projects, Print On Fabric on 24/02/13

This one is super cute!

We just hosted our baby’s 1st dino themed birthday party. While I didn’t want to go overboard with the decorations, I thought it would be fun to sew and create favor bags with dinosaurs on them. The little bags were from my own pattern and the dinosaur design was screen printed onto each bag using fabric ink and freezer paper.

See below for the easy printing steps. I dare you to create one today!

Materials needed:

  1. Freezer paper
  2. Tulip fabric paint and sponges
  3. X-Acto knife and cutting mat
  4. Sharpie pen and scissors
  5. Fabric
  6. Iron and ironing board

Simple Steps:

  1. Gather your materials
  2. Find your image.. I used my baby’s clothing and bibs as inspiration and re-created my cute dinosaur. The freezer paper needs to be shiny side down. Place your image under the freezer paper and trace.
  3. Using the Xacto knife and mat carfeully cut around your image.
  4. Press onto your fabric. Make sure to place shiny side down onto your fabric. Gently press, especially around the cut edges. You do not want to lift the edges of the paper with the iron or the ink will run.
  5. Squeeze paint into a cup. Dab paint gently onto your fabric and cover the entire area. Be careful to NOT goop onto fabric or use too much paint. If anything, TEST TEST first!
  6. While the paint is still wet, peel off freezer paper.

I would love to hear your comments and see your projects with freezer paper.  Feel free to like my page on facebook and then send your pictures over.

Also – please check back later this week – I promise to do a sewing post and also provide the pattern for this cute little totebag.

Hi – yes the freezer paper method can be used on anything –fabric, t-shirts, etc. I made my own handbags, but you could always buy them and screen print onto them.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog today! You’ve got some inspiring creations over here. I have yet to do my first freezer paper project, but I’m looking forward to tackling one soon…maybe on a tote bag! (Loved those Dino sandwiches, too!) Beautiful work.

My 5yr old loves to snoop and to go through my stuff. He especially loves my block printing supples, recently found my stash of stamps and lined them up. When I saw my handiwork from over the years, I thought it would make a fun picture.

Outcome from today’s zoom class and my intro to Outcome from today’s zoom class and my intro to block printing workshop. Love the wonkiness of this one, it is a little offbeat and the print definitely doesn’t line up. 🍊 is not a favorite color... yet for some strange reason I still kinda like this print.

A BIG thank you to everyone who joined in on the zoom fun! What a great group we had, people attended from all over - Canada, Mexico and the US.
