Sew A Simple Kraft-Tex Zipper Pouch

in Bags and Pouches on 31/10/20

I can’t believe that a whole month has gone by. This has been a quick month. The Kraft-tex color for the month of October is Blue Iris. This might is probably my favorite color to date. The color is blue/purple.. and it almost has a hint of a fuchsia in it.

I wanted to make a simple zipper pouch this month. I love sewing pouches and always have a need for them. I find the littlest of things at the bottom of my bag – lipgloss, hair elastics, tiny pencils, kids lego and even spools of thread. How about you?

For this Kraft-tex pouch, I went for it and put all the seams on the outside. That it what I LOVE about sewing with Kraft-tex. You don’t have to worry about fraying seams. You can just sew and go.

Have you tried kraft-tex? Kraft-tex is a vibrant paper that looks, feels and wears like leather, but sews, cuts and washes like fabric. It works perfectly on this pouch, it has an awesome weathered look.

TOP TIPS for sewing with Kraft-tex:

  • Backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam. This is important or your project will fall apart. Trust me, this has happened on my sample pieces.
  • Do not use pins, as they will leave holes. Only use Wonder Clips to hold pieces together.
  • Try to sew a seam only once. Make the first attempt be your first and only attempt. Otherwise you will have a nice line of holes. Think through each step before committing.
  • Have fun!

I always say to myself that I’m going to create a random print and then go straight for a structured layout.
