Inspired by bold graphic prints..

in Inspiration on 10/10/12

The best way to update a room is with a sewing machine, fabric and a project or two..

That being said, I have been looking for the perfect fabric to sew a slipcover for the Poang Ikea rocking chair in our nursery.  Our nursery is primarily white,  so a pop of color or a bold print would really stand out.  I usually go for prints that are timeless and won’t look too dated in a few years time.  However, right now I am inspired by bold, modern prints and want something fun for the room.

I made a mood board to get inspired and channel the right color, pattern and design.  Although, I am looking for something eye catching –  the color and overall feeling that I keep coming back to is graphic and grey..  Grey is everywhere right now.  Hello 50 Shades of Grey.  So, who says grey in the right print can’t be daring?

A graphic print will add the perfect amount of pizazz to our baby boy’s room.  Luckily, the rocking chair wasn’t overly expensive, so I could spend a little extra on the fabric.  Ikea products are fresh and modern, however, I do feel that they can be a bit main stream and sometimes just not “special” enough.   Adding a DIY slip cover (and maybe a pillow.. ) in a bold print is a great way to customize a look and give a simple and easy update to a room.

I eventually found the perfect grey woven fabric at Joann fabric and craft stores for about $18.00 a yard.  I custom fit and sewed the slip covers to go over the existing pillows.. and viola —  check out the cute, yet modern chair that was made:

That looks amazing! Did you use the old covers as a guide? For some reason covering chairs makes me nervous but this is inspiring.

HI – thank you. I used the existing cushions as a guide for the new covers. I hope to do a simple DIY post on this very soon!
