Sew A Long.. Make A Journal Cover

in Just for Fun on 28/06/13

I’ve been travelling alot the last few weeks and my sewing projects have become a casualty of my crazy work schedule.  Projects have piled up and my inspiration book has become dusty. Not alot completed in the sewing department!  While on the road, I’ve had many sleepless nights trying to come up with interesting and fun sewing related blog posts.

I was on Twitter the other day and found the cutest image from the blog Darling Adventures.  She was tweeting about her Journal Cover Sew Along that starts June 28th –today!  As I read her blog, I was instantly inspired to sew along and make a journal.  She has 3 guest bloggers posting their images next week – Erica from Caught on a Whim, Elena from Randomly Happy and Caila from Caila Made.  I look forward to seeing what they all share.

So, today my blog post is short and sweet. I have a few journal ideas up my sleeve and will showcase colors for 3 separate journals.  I’ll show the finished journal next week.

Make sure to check out the Darling Adventures blog and sew along!  She has a great video tutorial for the journal.

Here are my colors and ideas:

My first option is for my friend Trish. She is the editor and creator of The Purple Fig Blogzine.  An extremely talented writer, she could carry this journal with her to the park when she is with her 2 little boys. I have a cute caption in mind for the front cover.

The next option is for myself. I travel ALOT for work and I always have a little sketchbook with me.. I write down ideas and DIY projects.  This notebook would keep my inspired during long days on the road and away from my family. My design would mimic a real book.

My third option is for my 17 month old son. This would be the perfect travel and dinner out companion.  Tanner is just getting to the fun age for scribbling and drawing with crayons! Used as an “activity book”, it might give us a few peaceful moments at a restaurant. Wishful thinking! I would applique something about him on the cover.

I’m not giving too much away! It has been fun working out design ideas and color/ pattern options for each special journal. When you get a chance, let me know what you think about my selections! Please check back next week for the finished project.

Happy Sewing!

Thank you to everyone who signed up or attended a workshop this Spring.

I love teaching about simple shapes. It really is eye opening when you start deconstructing a repeat pattern into super simple shapes!

My block printing made easy online class starts today with module 1 out now. It will be offered again this August. More workshops and details to come.
