DIY.. Printed “Hello” Gift Bags

in DIY Projects, Print On Fabric on 08/05/14

Need a quick gift?  How about one of those daily Teacher Appreciation gifts??

I’m a total rookie at the Teacher Appreciation present thing.. Our kid is only two!! So unlike all those other overly prepared blog Moms, I’ve failed miserably at creating unique, hand-made daily gifts for his daycare ladies. Well, there’s always next year!

If you were here earlier this week, I finally plugged in my Silhouette machine and made “Hello Cali” swag bags for a recent girls trip. While I started the project a little late and with only two days until departure, it was weirdly fun trying to figure out my Cameo – the software, downloading images from the online store and actually using the materials and machine.. Agh!

I made 13 bags for our trip. I bought the bags [ I know, I know.. I should have sewn my own..] and printed on them using freezer paper and fabric paint from the Tulip brand. However, I had a very hard time throwing out all the little hello bits.

I’ve used freezer paper to print on fabric for quite some time.. But this time around, each lovely little hello was cut to perfection and I knew they would come in handy one day.

I am in LOVE the reverse design. Keep all your bits, you never know what can happen… Even my husband thought it was cool and started giving me pointers on different approaches and techniques to take with my little hello.

I still have 12 hellos to go, so you will be seeing more designs from this wonderful word.

That’s it for today.. More of an inspirational post than anything. But I have to say that I am in love with my new Cameo.  If you need a few tips and tricks on freezer paper and your Silhouette machine, head over to The Thinking Closet – Lauren is a master at this stuff and has great tutorials to get you started..

I promise to get back to sharing sewing tutorials soon. Until next week, happy sewing!

I have a cameo too. I’ve found a use for it in many different crafting and sewing projects. My most recent use has been to cut my own english paper pieces for hand quilting. But I also use it for holiday decor, gift tags, iron on monograms, cards etc. It has a lot of versatility. Have fun!

I’m behind on my Teacher Appreciation gifts…and I love this idea! I don’t have a cameo yet, so maybe I need to ask for one for Mother’s Day??? Excited to read more about how you use your cameo.

Love it, as usual! Now you should do a little “bye bye,” and do it in reverse on the back!

Hi, Thanks for stopping by. The freezer paper is from Reynolds. It is regular freezer paper bought at your grocery store. No sticky back, I just cut it down to letter size and put it on my board. Lauren at the thinking closet has awesome tutorials. Try checking out her blog and here is a link to a tutorial: http://www.thinkingcloset.com/2014/04/12/together-since-t-shirts-creative-anniversary-gift-idea/

Super cute! And good for any occasion because you can generally get those bags pretty cheap – could use as a gift bag a lot cheaper than buying one that will get thrown away. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks Stacy, So true on the canvas totes vs throw-away shopping bags! I found these canvas ones online for about $2 each. There was a $25 minimum purchase, but I now have enough bags for a few projects. 🙂 Have a great day.

I am a freezer paper stenciling fool. It works so well and I bought a three dollar roll like two years ago that is still going strong! Love these adorable bags! If you have a second to share them with us over at The Makers link party, that would so great! 🙂

My entry for this week’s design challenge @spoon My entry for this week’s design challenge @spoonflower. Browns are definitely not my favorite color these days, but the challenge was “earth tones” and using just 4 colors.

Ps. This started as a super simple block print and then I scanned it into the computer and drew the pattern in illustrator.

If you have a moment you can head over to spoonflower to vote. ❤️✔️

I am so glad it’s the weekend. How about you? I’m off prompt for the month and here is #carvedecember, Day 7 and the prompt for “Long”. I really like structured, linear and streamlined prints. With this challenge, I am playing around and trying new things.

So many people have asked me about my process. One So many people have asked me about my process. One tip is that I love using a grid to create the overall design and keep the block print streamlined. Here’s how you go about it. #carvedecember #carvedecember2022 #blockprinting #haberdasheryfun #blockprinted #speedballink
Simple block print for the prompt “Ponder”. I Simple block print for the prompt “Ponder”. I get a lot of questions on my process, so you can check out my reel for a little behind the scenes.

Day 5 for #carvedecember is “Plain”. I’m not Day 5 for #carvedecember is “Plain”. I’m not a huge fan of florals, and for some reason this shape came to mind. By itself it is kinda boring/ plain. In a repeat design it definitely comes alive.

What is your printing process? Do you like all an over scattered or a grid pattern? My favorite way to work is using a pencil grid and then making a very linear and streamlined print.
