DIY.. Girls Trip Swag Bags

in DIY Projects, Print On Fabric on 06/05/14

My husband gave me a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas. Until last weekend, it just sat and sat and sat in the box…

I was ignoring it on purpose. My husband would ask me “Um, what’s up..? That was an expensive present to just sit in the box… ” Truthfully, while I had yearned for this machine for EVER, I was intimated and overwhelmed by the thought of figuring it all out.

Girls Trip!! For months I had been envisioning using my Silhouette to create fun swag bags for our yearly girls trip.. This May, 13 of us were headed to Santa Barbara and I had “Hello Cali” on my brain.. With two days to go until departure, I plugged in the machine got to work making 15 bags. Lol. Nothing like a little pressure to get the job done…Right?

I bought the font and “hello” from the Silhouette online store.  Hello is from the artist Jillibean Soup and the font is from the artist Lori Whitlock. I LOVE how the bags turned out! The girls were surprised and very impressed. Here is my friend Sue goofing around for an Instagram pic by the pool. I am beyond hooked on this little machine.

We rented a house this year.  Let’s just say that we were a little giddy about the digs when we arrived.. Here are a few pictures. The 3rd pic down is the “pool room” and where I slept on bed large enough for 4 people.. It was a separate area detached from the house. Lol. Not too shabby, right?

Very cool! Sometimes I procrastinate using new stuff too because it takes some brain workouts to get into them. Looks like a super cool tool now that you’ve figured it out though! And the house is gorgeous!

I know exactly how you felt Marni. It took me 3 years to use my new Brother Innovis 80. I felt intimidated and wondering if I was going to be able to figure it out. Well, I’ve been working on it for about 2 months now, and I love it. I still feel I need some instruction (a lot of instruction) on this machine, which I will get free from the dealer. Maybe I’ll start going next week . . . we’ll see!!

My entry for this week’s design challenge @spoon My entry for this week’s design challenge @spoonflower. Browns are definitely not my favorite color these days, but the challenge was “earth tones” and using just 4 colors.

Ps. This started as a super simple block print and then I scanned it into the computer and drew the pattern in illustrator.

If you have a moment you can head over to spoonflower to vote. ❤️✔️

I am so glad it’s the weekend. How about you? I’m off prompt for the month and here is #carvedecember, Day 7 and the prompt for “Long”. I really like structured, linear and streamlined prints. With this challenge, I am playing around and trying new things.

So many people have asked me about my process. One So many people have asked me about my process. One tip is that I love using a grid to create the overall design and keep the block print streamlined. Here’s how you go about it. #carvedecember #carvedecember2022 #blockprinting #haberdasheryfun #blockprinted #speedballink
Simple block print for the prompt “Ponder”. I Simple block print for the prompt “Ponder”. I get a lot of questions on my process, so you can check out my reel for a little behind the scenes.

Day 5 for #carvedecember is “Plain”. I’m not Day 5 for #carvedecember is “Plain”. I’m not a huge fan of florals, and for some reason this shape came to mind. By itself it is kinda boring/ plain. In a repeat design it definitely comes alive.

What is your printing process? Do you like all an over scattered or a grid pattern? My favorite way to work is using a pencil grid and then making a very linear and streamlined print.
